Timing the visit
- Mornings beat afternoons twice over: parking exists, and the wind that builds most days arrives after lunch.
- Low tide widens the north end usefully — more firm sand between the water and the rocks for a running dog.
- Fog season (which is to say, summer) runs cold. Thin-coated dogs do better with a shell; a four-leg rain suit is the fog answer as much as the rain one.
- Golden hour is the photo — the bridge lights up warm from the north end, and a sandy dog in the foreground is the postcard.
Sand, salt and the ride home
Baker’s sand is fine and it travels.
