Choosing protective gear

These suits come from different patterns and their letters do not line up: a size S on one runs a wider chest than a 2XL on another, and the same 8XL label stops at a different weight depending on which suit is wearing it. One more thing worth knowing before you buy: these are waterproof and water-resistant shells, not insulated coats. They keep rain, road spray, and mud off the coat underneath, which is the whole job on a wet walk in mild weather. A dog who needs warmth in a hard freeze needs a layer under the shell rather than a heavier shell — that is what the winter-coats shelf is for, and the two are worn together rather than instead of each other. How do I size a dog rain suit?
Measure back length from the collar to the base of the tail, and chest girth at the widest point behind the front legs, then match both against the size chart on the suit you want. Do not size by the letter across suits — these patterns do not share a scale, and an S on one runs wider than a 2XL on another. Between sizes? Size up: a four-leg suit needs room to move.
What's the difference between the rain suits?
Coverage depth. The Clear-Visor suit adds a transparent hood visor and an open belly for quick wet-weather walks; the All-Leg Rain Shield adds separate leg sleeves with textured sole cups and reflective bands; the Full-Cover raincoat is an 8000 mm shell with a hooded high collar, two-way back zipper, and reflective piping for the wettest routes.
Is there a four-leg rain suit for a large or giant-breed dog?
Yes, and it is the deepest part of this shelf. The Boy-or-Girl-Cut suit runs sizes 20 to 32, its top size charted for a 121 to 138 lb dog; the Removable-Tail suit runs XS to 5XL and tops out at 105 to 132 lb; the Zip-Front and Back-Zip suits run 3XL to 8XL for dogs up to 110 lb. Can my dog wear a leash or harness with the suit on?

Are these warm enough for snow?
They are waterproof and water-resistant shells, not insulated coats — built to keep rain, spray, and mud off the coat underneath rather than to add warmth.
