A padded four-leg winter suit with a long back zip, a built-in harness, and cords at the neck and waist. Choose by back length, chest and neck.

A coat that stops at the ribs leaves all four legs out in the cold. This suit is padded from a high collar down to gathered cuffs just above the paws: PP cotton fill sits between a water-repellent outer fabric and a honeycomb-textured lining, through the body and all four sleeves. The paws and tail stay free.

Four-leg suits are known for being a wrestle at the door. This one opens along a long zip down the back, so it lies open over your dog while you guide each leg into its sleeve, then closes along the spine. All four legs still go into sleeves; the zip gives you the room to do it.

Fitting a harness over a padded coat is fiddly, so the harness is built in: adjustable webbing with a black buckle and paired metal rings at the back. Snug the straps, clip the lead to the rings, and there is nothing else to put on.

Fit is where four-leg suits most often go wrong, so start with a tape measure. Measure back length from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, chest around its widest point, and neck where the collar sits, then compare all three with the chart on this page. Cords with metal stops at the neck and waist, plus the harness strap adjusters, take up slack once you have the right size; they do not replace choosing it.

The rear is cut open and the tail sits outside the suit. Water beads on the outer fabric, which is a water-repellent finish rather than a waterproof rating, and reflective bands run across the collar and the rear of the body to catch light after dark.
