A four-leg rain suit for big dogs: a zip that runs the length of the back, a chest strap with a one-press buckle and a metal ring for the leash, a hood that pulls up over the head, and a sleeve for the tail.

Rain is the reason most walks get cancelled, and with a big dog the towel routine afterwards is its own event. This suit covers the parts that actually get wet – back, chest, belly and all four legs down to just above the paw – so a grey forecast stops being a decision.

The zip runs down the spine rather than the chest, and that changes how the suit goes on. You open the whole back, settle it over your dog, then close one line from collar to tail. A grey webbing strap crosses the chest and closes with a single side-release buckle, so a dog who would rather already be outside stands still for seconds instead of minutes.

A round metal ring sits on that chest webbing, held by the same buckle. The leash you already own clips straight onto the suit, so nothing extra has to go on over a wet shell or come off underneath it. Use your own judgement about what that ring is holding – it is a convenience, not a replacement for a harness.

The hood pulls up over the head with a soft elasticated edge around the face opening, so eyes, nose and mouth stay open to the air and the ears sit inside. Worn down it rests behind the neck as a collar. A separate fabric sleeve covers the tail and snaps off when you would rather leave it bare.

The shell is a high-density Taslon weave and beads water on the surface rather than drinking it in. The underside is open through the middle rather than closed all the way round.

Sizes run 3XL to 8XL, for dogs roughly 22 to 110 lb. Measure your dog’s back from the collar to the base of the tail and around the deepest part of the chest, then check both against the size chart before you choose – the weight ranges are a guide, not a rule.

Rinse or wipe down after wet walks and hang to dry away from direct heat — heat wears down the waterproof coating. Skip bleach, softener, and ironing.
