Once the clocks change, the evening walk is the first thing to go. This leash is built so it does not have to. A ring of light sits around the touch panel on the handle, and a small lamp in the nose of the housing points forward along the ground. One tap of the panel turns the lamp on, a second switches to the ring, and a third runs both together.
The flat woven tape pays out to 9.8 ft (3 m) through a U-shaped port that keeps it lying flat instead of twisting, and a sliding brake button sits in the top edge of the handle right under your thumb, so you can shorten and hold the line at a curb without changing your grip. The metal swivel snap hook clips onto the collar your dog already wears.
It is a small piece of gear with a simple job: the dark stretch of your usual route stops being the reason you turn back, and the walk you both wanted still happens.

The lamp set into the nose of the handle throws a beam along the ground in front of you, so the sidewalk, the curb and whatever your dog has just found are visible again. Your dog walks into a lit patch instead of into the dark, and the stretch of the route you used to turn back at is simply part of the walk.

A sliding brake button sits in the top edge of the handle under your thumb: press to stop the tape, push to lock it. Your dog comes in close in one motion instead of being hauled, so a busy corner or a passing cyclist does not end the walk early.

The tape leaves flat and comes back flat
The tape runs through a U-shaped port with a metal-edged slot, which keeps the flat webbing lying flat as it pays out and rewinds. Your dog can range ahead and come back without the line snagging, and the gear stays out of the way of the walk.
Light ring
A color ring that cycles as you walk
A ring of light circles the touch panel and drifts through blue, violet, cyan, and pink. One more tap runs the ring and the front lamp together, so while the lamp reads the ground ahead of your dog, the ring keeps a moving point of color at your side.
